Tuesday was the longest day so far.
We woke up in Amsterdam to find the car very blocked inside the hotel's private car park and slightly scratched, but it's ok Mum, it's not too bad, we even took a photo for you, see below. To get the car out some random hotel cleaners were given the keys for the car in the way and asked to move it, as they attempted to reverse out it became obvious how the scratch appeared!
So we strapped in our cacti and hit the road. Sadly, again, Oodga tried to take us down the only closed road out of the city and became increasingly distressed as we ignored her orders to make a u-turn where possible. Using our maps and ingenuity we followed signs to the city ring road and the north.
The journey was really easy, and involved going over the world's largest [we think...] dyke! Handily there was a mid-point break in the motorway with a dyke viewing spot and some fun facts! Which we soon forgot.
We then got on our second ferry to the lovely island of Terschelling. Blue skies, sparkling seas, friendly locals, quiet roads and long sandy beaches; jealous yet?!
Terschelling was just as beautiful as we'd imagined, only unfortunately it proved to be an expensive detour, so for lunch we have our third consecutive meal of cheese and bread from the local supermarket. Beauty does come at a price!
We were pleased to find the hotel provided hobs and fridges in the rooms, but slightly disappointed to discover a lack of cutlery, saucepans, kettles, plates or bowls. Strange.
Tuesday evening was spent driving around the island, stopping for photos and paddling in very warm sea, finished off with a hot chocolate outside a little bar right on the beach watching the sun go down over the sea!
This morning we accidentally wandered into a small Terschelling museum, lured in by postcards. The very friendly owner told us about how the English came to the island in 1666 and burnt down their main village. After a brief wander around we were greeted by another employee/guide with a cheery "oh, you're the English couple!". He assured us we didn't need to apologise for the fire and told us about his recent trip to England for Global Gathering. Picturing the happy Dutchman high and clubbing was far too easy, especially when he couldn't work out his own till!
Today- Hamburg! Although we may have to book tonight's accommodation at some point...
The car was stationary!
See, not too awful :]
Fritz, Hanz and Helga ready to go!
